Most of the chops were done at the beginning of the year or in the last few weeks on these projects, so ill report back at another point, but in my experience Beech dont always callus very well. so with that in mind, any scars you make are better off as a feature....
the shari on this one was done by a rabbit, or die back while it was in the field....some will find it repulsive, but i like it and have chosen this for the front of the tree

or try and make chops unobtrusive and in between more than one point of growth, callus will definitely form quicker on more vigorous parts of the tree
i just had a look at one of the beeches posted above and there is some callus starting to form already, this wound was made a month ago, you can tell when callus is beginning to form because it causes a split on the edge of the cut paste
