It would have been impossible to avoid the over-abundance of press coverage, community discussion and wild speculation that has surrounded the impending deadline for compliance with the European Union's new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force on May 25th 2018.

Any organisation that handles visitors or customers from inside the EU is required to adhere to the GDPR, which aims to protect the personal data of EU residents, with the threat of penalties for non-compliance.

In order to be compliant, the following will be implemented on the Bonsai Nut web site:
  • All users will need to acknowledge and agree to our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. We will be sending out an email shortly highlighting changes and asking people to accept the terms as a condition of membership on the site.
  • We will have more explicit message about cookies being required for site operation, and members will need to explicitly acknowledge their use.
  • The option to opt in or out of site emails will now be shown on the registration form.
  • When deleting a user, all the user's content will be anonymised. (We have been doing this manually, but it will now be automatic).
  • There will be a new default privacy policy help page
This is much less of an issue for Bonsai Nut than for sites that maintain sensitive personal data (names, addresses, payment info, etc). However we fully intend to be compliant by the deadline in order to continue to welcome all our EU friends!

You are still Euro-weenies. It doesn't matter if you admit it or not. Admitting it will set you free and allow you to see things as they are not as you have been led to believe.

No skin off my back if you want to believe that anything the EU comes up is good for people. Oh wait! Except when your intellectual superiors in Brussels come out with rediculous disruptive 'directives' like lead free solder -- so much superior to the solder industry had been using for over 100 years that it can't be used to build mission critical components because of tin whiskers not present in leaded solder. Tin whiskers cause shorts, shorts are not good except on Smoke (oh wait they cause smoke) and good looking women. May as well be politically incorrect while I am at it, you people are so much fun to watch when you are confronted with alternate views and facts.

Yep Euro-weenies fits perfectly just like Californutballs that infest that once glorious state.

If this is trolling I will take it as a compliment.

Thank You!

Thank you. And sorry for the EU hassle. At work we are also going through the hoop-jumping. And at a university this new law is a real nightmare..
You state the above and you don't think that the people who came up with this ridiculous bureaucratic nightmare are Weenies?

Shakes head in disbelief.

You realize that this ridiculousness only applies to entities that are in the EU. Sorry you think you have to deal with the faceless bureaucrats the weenies in the EU that they have allowed to control their lives.

I just re-read your post above and realize that not only you but the members of B-Nut will have to be inconvenienced by this nonsense.
If you don't want your info "used" don't give it or don't join . How does a government entity get to get between provider and customer(user), what is the purpose for this?

I truly would like to know what others think about this. You obviously know how I feel.

I dont agree. Facebook, google, and countless other tech firms have proven time and again that they cannot be trusted with our data without a regulatory frame. Tech companies are predatory, trying to get and minetize more and more private information. They need to be regulated. I applaud the EU for having the balls to do what we, here in the US, are too wimpy to do.

I prefer a government, which has checks and balances, than an unregulated private company with very little oversight
No such thing as an unregulated company, it's not 1870...
I also wish we had a govt with checks and balances, but instead we have a super corrupt machine that operates outside the the boundaries of the Constitution and law itself....
I prefer freedom.

I agree. Yet, the checks and balances have worked to check his worst ideas. Courys have stricken down his travel ban, he was unable to pass the worst health care law in generations, etc. Ultimately, my point is this: We can vote him out, we cannot do the same with corporations. Which is why corporations have no moral duty nor incentive to care about anything but their bottom line. I feel way more uncomfortable with google having my personal info than the government.

Lol!
Just waiting for the truth train to roll into DC...it will just wait....
If we ever see Justice in DC, we'll see Obama, Comey, Clapper, Strouk, Page, and Hillary shackled together, doing a frog March into the nearest maximum security prison, for a long long time.
Haha!

In fact, we should see the corrupts like Trump and his family impeached and charge. Obama was one of the most decent men in recent history to occupy the office.

Name a crime Trump has committed, Comey read us the rap sheet on Hillary, she committed more crimes than you can shake a stick at...
And you just wait, the case is already made, it's out there... Of course no one at any of the state controlled media outlets will report on it, but like I said, the truth will prevail eventually... hopefully before Obama the soft wahabist, and his gang die of natural causes.
