Got 47 more seeds from bwaynef that originally came from Schumacher seeds. Getting ready to stratify a few, I want to start them in groups with the last group being started directly in the ground.

Put 20 seeds in to soak last night, 10 from ebay and 10 from schumacher. All twenty sank so I'll take that as a good sign. Tucked away in the fridge for a month.

Not quite a month since I soaked my seeds but I decided to plant them anyways.

Nothing fancy, small planting trays with seed starter soil. They will go under lights on a stand with house plants.
I'm going to try leaving the tray lids on once they come up in a attempt to get them bent/twisted.

Most of my other seeds will be sown directly in the ground if winter ever ends

Hmm, a heat pad is a good idea but all I have are reptile pads and they get too hot. I really need to buy a proper seed mat.

I have babies popping up. So far the eBay seeds are doing better.

So far so good. out of the original 20 seeds I planted, I got 10 to germinate and all 10 are still alive. I did snip the roots awhile back and a couple of the seedlings have a fairly yellowish stem. Not sure if they are dieing or if its normal color change for pine seedlings.

I finally got around to soaking my remaining seed, after their chill period it should be consistently warm enough to plant them outside.

Still not sure if I will sow directly in the ground or in seed trays. Being that I live in a rural area, I do get wild pines occasionally popping up in the flower beds. I wouldn't want one of them to get mixed in with the JBP.

I'm out. I've completely lost interest in pines. I'll still plant my seeds outside though, if they survive the winter I'll probably sell the seedlings off next spring.

Don't give it up yet! Maybe go for the "raw untouched" left alone outside look, but don't quit a 6year contest 5 months in. It's just supposed to be for fun anyways.

If you really have lost all interest maybe try to manipulate them in a way that you wouldn't do with trees that you actually care for. You might learn something new that could carry over to other plants

I still have a few survivors, moved them into bigger pots today. Lost most when I root trimmed.

I also have a few mikawa seedlings but I didn't take pictures of them, they are just now getting true needles. I'm not root trimming them.

Thanks, they really took off in the last few weeks. A shot of fish fertilizer really seemed to jump start them.
