Have you considered this instead? Maybe growing out a cascading branch as well?

The branches on the right and in the apex are way too straight imo. If you could add some more movement I think that would improve the over all image. It may also just be the 2D picture. Still a cool tree in a very nice pot though.

And since I’m lame and only have a few trees, one I’ve posted on the forums over and over

@Cadillactaste had suggested repotting it as a cascade, an idea which I like and will do in Springtime . A styling trim will also be necessary so...thanks!
This is the tree thread, to post here, you must include a photo of one of your trees. See the OP...

Work in progress: Shohin (mame?) sized Berberis thunbergii atropurpurea ‘Helmond Pillar’ . Very awkward to work with, the growth is strongly fastigiate (it's a columnar variety) and even the new shoots are very brittle and prone to snapping / dying when wired. This one may take some time to get right.

Really overdue to give this some lovin. Haven’t touched it for about three years. Haven’t really been able to see the way forward, think I finally saw it a couple days ago. View attachment 195931View attachment 195932
Looks like it has the makings of something really nice, looking forward to seeing what you do with it. This is my potentilla (work in progress again) after a hard cutback a few days age.

Does anyone out there defoliate potentillas?

One was hit by lightning I think it looks cool gives it character and I’m thing on leaving the dead branches for more flavor. 16D079E7-F5F1-45EF-B852-769B71001748.jpeg
