I just did a test. Rebooted my iPad then came back to the site. Images that were only half loading are now fully loading. Rebooting iPads and iPhones clears and frees up memory so I suspect this is the issue.
I very much doubt that it’s a memory problem. I have the 256 GB version of the iPhone 8+ and the phone says it currently has 239 GB free and it still happens for me.

Not quite the memory he was talking about.

I believe he means RAM. Kind of like “cache” that fills up and upon restarting the phone, it clears it.

I don't think it's a memory "problem". I believe it's a software issue related to how the device is set up to handle images stored in memory. It doesn't appear to be a bug - it appears to be how these devices handle large images in a web browser.

For example, let's just say you browse to a web site that has a ridiculously large image on it (20MB). Instead of downloading the entire image, the browser will download the first 1MB, and then display the rest of the dimensions of the image as a black box. If you expand the image, you are telling the browser "I REALLY want to see the entire image" in which case it downloads the balance of the image and displays it. I don't know that this is exactly the case, since I am not familiar with iPhones.

It is surprising that the XenForo platform struggles with iPad/iPhone software, but it is definitely frustrating to see this much and no more!?

I wonder about the picture server. I could imagine this arising because the server is slowed/overloaded and the browser effectively times-out, creating a partial download of pix. I'm using Android and Chrome/Windows and have had times that pix were slow.

It is surprising that Apple struggles with XenForo... when PC and Android have no problem with it :)

The only thing I can suggest is to try loading a different browser (Firefox or Chrome). Navigate to the site (using the same phone) but with the different browser. If the site works fine using the different browser, you will know that the problem lies with Safari. There are reports of Apple users having the same problem on different websites, and Apple suggests certain steps for deleting your cache and your browser extensions. It is difficult for me to troubleshoot remotely when I can't replicate the problem :(

"when PC and Android have no problem with it" hey hey hey, no more of that! No matter how true it may be....

I understand, if you cant replicate, theres not a whole lot you can do.
If you ever would like me to test anything, feel free to PM.

Chrome does it too on my iPad.

I did a shutdown/reboot of my iPad as suggested and found that the problem has seemed to be fixed, at least temporarily. That was yesterday and it is still working (images loading completely) as you would hope today. Might be worth a try. Time will tell...!

UPDATE: Problem just reared it’s ugly ahead again, so the “fix” was very temporary. Once again I rebooted and found the pics loading as they should. Just wanted to add this info in case it is helpful for anyone investigating a more permanent solution.

Yeh I did an iOS update which should be best way to restart and clear any bad cache or memory, happened immediately for me so.. just something to live with, unfortunately.

Thread revival.

I’ve had the same problem on my iPhone for some time. Did anyone come up with a fix?

It seems like the download times-out. BN server problem?

Please refer to BNuts posts above. Theres not much else that can be done unfortunately.
I didnt try a different browser, like Chrome on iPhone. Its a compatibility issue between 2 pieces of software, problem doesn't lie with the forum.

If people could insert the pic as full image, rather than attachment to forum posts, then it would solve that, or you can click the full screen button on an image.

Ever since the last big round of changes some images simply wont upload unless you resize them first.
I have no problems with phone pics but as soon as I try an upload one taken with my dslr I have to resize it first.
So that is at least something you can try, most pics in original form are too big to be useful anyway so if you resize them by 50 to 70 percent then they are still big enough to see.

Maybe. However I’ve restarted my iPad Pro several times....and still have the same problem. Half baked photos. Safari use.

Me too...

I still think it is a memory issue. On my post about the New Baby my forst image was appearing halfway. However after rebooting the iPad it now loads all the way. However I bet by tomorrow it will be back to half-assed loads again.

The problem is not uploading pictures. The problem is viewing pictures posted by other users in threads.

When selecting someone’s posted picture to view - it only loads half of the image for my viewing.
