I know you shouldn't be envious of your neighbors, but I'm sorry, I am. Where I live, there only a few species of bonsai material that will thrive. Some will survive, but barely. There are so many trees I would love to have, but I've wasted a lot of money trying to buck the odds. I can grow JBP's, junipers and ponderosa. "D" trees look like crap here starting in July, and not worth the effort. So if you're one of those lucky people that you can grow just about anything, consider yourself lucky.

Please show me you have anything related to bonsai, otherwise you're a pretender and a troll.

I don't know about anybody else here, but I can't figure out how to post pictures. I want to all the time, but I just never have learned how. Maybe that's something I'll learn this year. put it on my bucket list, so to speak. But zone envy? Yeah, I want to grow a paperbark white birch. But its not going to happen here. Or a larch. Neither will grow here for me.

Harry,

When you give a mouse a cookie, he'll want a glass of milk...In other words, if you don't give the mouse your attention, he may have less to say. He obviously ain't in this for bonsai.

Harry, have you tried making a shelter using shade cloth in which to put your D trees? I realize that the heat in your area is oppressive and will do a number on deciduous species but I feel there must be a way for you to compensate.

And just so you don't think I'm a troll, here's my most favorite tree.

Very nice tree Tom. Sometimes we do talk Bonsai, but not much going on, at least down here where's it's at least 100 everyday. Thanks for he suggestion, but I have a shade house, but the hot wind drys the the leaves out and I can't keep them in the shade and out of the wind. I gave up years ago and decided to concrentate on the species that I can keep, mainly conifers. Shimpaku do well here, as long as they get afternoon shade and misting during the day.

I know the frustration Harry is talking about since I live only four hrs from him (south:(). I made the decision a few years ago to sell off my maples and hornbeams (had some nice ones too) and do what Harry is doing, conifers, mainly JBPs. I still have a few ch elms which by the way Harry do great down here. I too tried the shade cloth but as Harry said those dry winds will do you in. I did a little good by setting the pots in shallow water, but even that stopped working after a few years. I'll just stick with my junipers and JBPs and be happy with those for now. :D

Damn that's a shame. I guess barring a greenhouse where you can completely control the climate you have no other options.

O well, I'd kill for any one of your JBPs thats for sure.
