Hey,
tried my first forest planting on a piece of rock I found locally. The rock is about 3,5 inches. I drilled holes and planted 11 small Lilac trees that grew on my property. They've been growing separately in small containers for a couple of months before planted on the rock. So far it looks rather like branches sticking up but these lilacs grow like crazy in the spring so I'm hoping to have a solid growth next year. I'll keep you posted with developments. Let me know your thoughts.

Let me know your thoughts.

(1) I like your slab
(2) Very healthy moss, but I think there is too much and it is too thick. You might want to consider adding some rocks to your forest - something that matches and is harmonious with your slab.
(3) Tough to comment on the trees, because they are just sticks :) However I believe you that they will grow fast, and I look forward to seeing progress!

Great job.Would be nice to be able to see some of the rock it is planted on. I like Bnuts idea about incorporating rocks. Nigel Saunders has a couple of videos out about some forest plantings that he incorporates rock into. Might be worth a view.

1. Thank you, very happy with the slab.
2. Yes, probably too much moss at this point. I’ve tried a couple of different mosses to see what I like best with the trees, so this will be re-arranged once the forest developes.
3. Agreed, trees are not trees but sticks. That is also why I haven’t done much to the landscapes with rocks and such, the trees are
such an important part and since they have no character yet it’s hard to see exactly how I want to create the forest around them yet.

To be continued... :)

Thanks! Yes, you’re probably right here, I’ve attached a lot of moss. It’s a bit of trial and error in this first forest. I applied a lot of moss to see if it’d survive, and which moss fit best to this rock and trees so I will re-arrange the moss eventually, but I might start removing some of it right away since there’s definitely rock to display.
I like Nigel, he’s amazing and a great teacher even though in my opinion he styles his forest a little too much, I don’t want to make a Penjing out of this.
Thanks for commenting!

Btw, here’s a picture of the rock by itself right after I found it.
