The more I dislike literati style the more this thing goes just that way. It’s 11cm after I bent it down, but the stone is almost as big as the pot (not sure how to measure when it gets lifted out one day)
And, what’s the position of the foliage with these things? Do I have to bend the leaves downward?

Kevin,

why not try trees/shrubs with fine branching and leaves.
Experiment a bit.
Apart from the willow leaf or Ficus b., we have abandoned
ficus types.
Too much trouble to train.

Try a Sagretia t. or a Ligustrum.
Good Day
Anthony

* Both that is a frightening background !

I found this one in this shape, I love the trunk movement. So I thought I’ll grow it into...something

Kevin,
Apart from Mao, I can see why my grandfather left Guangzhou [ Canton correct ?]
and moved to Trinidad ---------:eek::eek::eek:
He ended up next to his cousin on a 1/2 acre of land with trees, lots of
trees, lots and lots of trees.:)
Good Day

Yeah, those days it was still Canton. I’m actually going back to school in September, gonna major in Chinese. I’m sure they’ll shove some history down my throat too. I’ve gone past Sun Yet Sen memorial on the metro, but never got off to take a look.

But anyways, back to trees, I’m on the Tropic of Cancer right here, but in September I will be in Shenzhen which is another 100 or so I’m south. Less brutally hot in summer because of that ocean breeze, but the milder wonder puts me in a new hardiness zone. Think it’s either 10, or 11, or bordering between. Gotta look it up

Kevin,

Try the Sageretia t.

It is in the ground a zone 7 hedge in China.
In a bonsai pot it would move to zone 8 or 9.
BUT it grows easily in the bright light of the Tropics [ under a tree where the
branches are set at 20 feet up or so,]

It is listed as deciduous, but down here is is evergreen.

It is finely branched and small of leaf.
Bark cracks off and is lighter underneath - very attractive.
We know it as the - Sparrow's Plum.
Encourage, Encourage ..............
Good Day

I have successfully wrapped this tree in a box and smuggled it out to SA to give it to my mom, I reckoned she’ll get a kick out of it.
I tried to do some research and neither of the 2 countries have any issues.

After doing some research I learned that my hometown is actually zone 11, 1 up from where I currently reside in China.
