Went to Saulieu today.

Great exhibit, lots of people, very many quality trees on display or for sale.

My favourite, an Acer buergerianum, diplayed with a "Chinese Juniper":

Another one I loved - a Punus spinosa (?) -forgot to take a photo of the label ;(

And a forest of A. buerger.:

And so many other nice trees.

More in a couple of days: I took about 200 photos, but there must be thousands much better than mine that will be online after the weekend, I'll updtate with links or/and other photos.

I realise I've favoured the deciduous, so here's a conifer :

... and one that I found was good modern display. Or how to break the rules and stay in the rules ... Or something.

The "pot" is actually a piece of dead wood, probably treated, the feet iron bars painted black, the base is a piece of burned wood - made me think of railroads logs, whatever you call them.

Thanks for the pics Alain!
That's one of Tony Tickle's pines and if I recall correctly, the 'pot' is actually a really old piece of natural stone. Terry Foster found a bunch of that stone up north in Britain somewhere and he gave some pieces to Tony.
Either that or he switched it out for a piece of deadwood, but it looks to be the stone. It was on display at Bonsai Europa 2017 as well and is incredibly heavy for its size. Tony made me lift it up while he tried show tables on when we were doing the show prep last year. It looks way better like this than it did on the traditional cascade table tho! He has a very fascinating view on bonsai display imho.

Thanks fo the info.

I thought I saw Tony at some point in the crowd, but there were so many people, I'm not sure.

The "container" suits the tree so well that it's like "organic", I'd never imagined it is stone.

A very artistic piece, my congratulations to the author.

I was planning on going but something came up so I didn't make it today and won't tomorrow :( so post as many pics as you like :p
Never been there before, so hopefully next year!

@Ruben Bouwmeester Not Noelanders?

Quick question: the first display with the trident... it's already in winter silhouette, but all my acers still have theirs leaves and are still pushing new growth...
Saulieu is only a 6 hour drive. Were they removed on purpose for this?

Maybe the leaves were scorched because it was so hot and dry this summer. Just a thought.

I am about 2 hours NE of you. My tridents are in full fall colours, and leavees are dropping. Could be either. I guess I would have let some leaves on, but would have removed most if I had a tree like that in the show?

They are really close together, if you ask me. Next Noelanders ( isn't called noelanders any more) will be stunning. Deciduous tree's are beter to judge when they are in winter mode, you can see the ramification beter.

Unfortunately I only went Saturday. Carpooling: cheaper and better for the environment.

Here is a video taken on Sunday: maybe those who attended can recognise themselves, or friends? ;)

But it's mainly a good vision of what it was like.

More audience each year, great trees in the exhibit, more pros selling good, very good stuff at various prices (haggling is part of the fun), and what "Fraisier"'s video shows well I think, the friendly atmosphere.

NB: if you learned French from books, or learnt "received pronunciation", he's got that chanting, but rather rough in way, accent from the South-West (Périgord) that will be haérd for you to understand. The Italians, Spaniards, Brasilians or Portuguese will probably understand him better - and his level of language is very good, precise but also natural when talking to the average bonsai enthusiast crossing the camera, which helps.

Saulieu, France, Europe:

See you next year?...
