Is it possible to make the flowers be smaller?
Yes, it is.
This multiple layer hibiscus flower used to have the size of my palm. Now it is much smaller! ( or my palm is getting bigger ?)

... ...It makes sense, doesn’t it?
Yes, it does make sense.
I have one H. syriacus from hardwood cutting and it has single flowers.
I am growing out this tree which is very slow so I give it a lot of "food" and the leaves and flowers are big.
One more bad feature of this tree is that scars almost do not heal at all.

Thank you for suggesting, Thụ Thoại!

You are welcome . Hollow trunk is one of the strong focal points in design.

Is the hibiscus in a bonsai pot? I would like to see the whole plant, if you wouldn't mind. I popped a double flowered hibiscus straight from it's nursery can, into while not a bonsai pot, a wide shallow pot as soon as I got it this summer. Mostly for ease of bringing it for the winter. The flowers on it have seemed to become smaller also.

Yes, it is in the clay pot. This tree has the trunk base diameter about 25 cm.
Sorry for the poor quality picture!

Back side. I could make it as a front because I like iits cascade branch

It is in a cheap Chinese pot! I will place it in better pot in the near future.

P/S : by the way, it is my habit to listen to the classical music and drink hot green tea during tree work! ?

Pretty sure that was your plan all along! Thanks for including your teaching with your posts. It contributes to bonsai for those who pay attention and are open to growth.

Why do we need to clean the bark? To remove the comfortable zone from the insects that can hide beneath the bark. When I talk about bark removal here, it means the outer bark.
I have a Dwarf Hinoki with some age and great flaky bark. It has been struggling a few years but showing some vigor this season. Would you remove this bark? I lost a weak azalea newly acquired last year to borers and worry...
Thank you!

Because you wrote the tree had great flaky bark, I would not remove it! I only remove the bark if it has fiber typed stripe like California juniper. I am using tree in post # 756 for example

Removed bark

And when the bark was removed, it showed the nice dark red color beneath.

For that effect. I will remove the bark.
In your case, if you want to prevent the insect problem, you may have to use a sprayer bottle to bring stuff to the bark ( remember covering the soil surface when you do that )
