I am sending out an invitation to my fellow bnut members from the Montréal area, to see if there is interest in forming a study group. @Cosmos @derek7745 @MartyB if any of you would like to share some ideas, projects, it could help us all to expand our vision. If we are successful in maintaining a good little study group it can create opportunities to hire an artist to work with our group on certain occasions. No worries if you prefer to remain solitary bonsaists!

That’d be very cool! Especially with the boring season just around the corner. We could meet up for a beer somewhere in November.

Awesome to hear you are in! I also have spoken to another dude from Montréal who is interested to share in the exchange of ideas. I am in MTL everyday for work, so I can easily stick around for a beer and some bonsai talk.

I have thought to myself what a waste it is when I prune deciduous and throw away perfectly good cuttings, when they could go to others. As a group we can better use our material!

Absolutely, 5-6 sounds like the right number for a study group.

And next year we could try going nursery hunting on the south shore so we can spare our girlfriends/wives/partners for a bit hehe.

I was a member for a couple years, but I have since signed up with Bonsai Les Bois Franc. I am considering taking up membership in Montréal again, but I honestly lack the time. Often the small conferences are during the week, and I get up at around 4am.

I am in for any and all info sure. I am also growing some olive tree cuttings from a rather large and (illegally) imported variety that was itself a cutting 40 years ago. Last year I spotted a 10 foot tall olive tree in someone's driveway and I went over and chatted with the individual, and he graciously let me take some cuttings last year; I had a dozen or so survive. This year I am re-trying and so far so good, my skillset should be better this time and I expect and hope to have a larger volume of survivors.

Its a decently vigorous Olea Europaea from Avalino Italy. depending on the survival rate I should have some to give away in the spring

here is a pic of the tree. I took some cuttings from the base of it on sept 30th and some are rooting already. I tried to get some good fat shoots coming from the rootbase of the parent tree and from what I can see so far a large number of cuttings are showing signs of progress.

Wait, I see the beer... where are the bonsai??
The only valid response I can give to that is that this is the first time I have met up with anyone from the internet, so a pub was needed.? The hope going forward would be that people take turns hosting, but there was definetly a need for a neutral spot. I am hopeful that we will have a good group, and be able to hire some professional artists to work with our group.

was very interesting to meet you all. I am not quite at your level yet but I am making my way there hopefully. Alot of very smart and well educated folks! Looking forward to learning some skills and techniques.
