Nuccio's looks to have a good variety of starter material, but I have never personally bought from them. Around here, it pretty easy to find Chinzan and Waka e bisu at garden centers.

If you want to Get USDA permit you can ship from Japan if this is desirable. Permit is easy to obtain.

Come to the Azores and collect. Exotic and mildly invasive here. It’s everywhere, from public gardens to road sides. You’ll find both small and large specimens up to 3 m in height. This and Camellia are probably the most widely cultivated ornamentals over here. That’s why I find them boring and uninteresting.

Same species here. Rhododendron indicum Flowers from May to June. Although there’s also a variety/species that flowers now. I think this is the paradise for Rhododendron species.

I’m sure there’s rhododendron indicum in the Azores. It’s included in the Azores Bioportal which is scientifically curated.

This is confusion.

Rhododendron indicum (L.) Sweet, this is accepted name. This is not the same as the Rhododendron indicum.

We can look the Azores Bio portal and see that Rhododendron indicum is not listed.

No. You're confused. Rhododendron indicum (L.) Sweet is the same as Rhododendron indicum.

Rhododendron - Genus name
indicum - Species name
(L.) Sweet - Authority: meaning, in this case, that the species has been described by Linnaeus and then revised by Sweet.

My latest batch of satsuki whips came from David Kreutz. Reasonable prices, less than $30, most were $20 or even less. Good quality, imported from Japan.

He receives only a few shipments a year, so inventory goes up and down, especially whips, because they sell out much faster than big dollar trees. Do call or email him

How does that help? I can’t see what you mean with that link saying that Rhododendron indicum is the accepted name. That’s what I said right?

Just so you know, I’m a biologist. Species names are my thing.
