I have a Cedrus Deodara that i planted about 5 years ago. Then pulled up last year, and been in a container. Im ready to chop and get into a shallow pot, and just wanted to make sure i should wait until spring. I put it in 'winter storage' with the others, but thought i would ask just to make sure. I havent worked with one of these before. It was planted as a landscape tree, and i changed my mind. Thanks for any input.

I've read different opinions on best time to chop. Some say in winter when dormant so less bleeding but others say Spring. I just chopped a 6' deodar down to about 24" last week. We shall see come spring how it worked.

I have a deodara that was our Christmas tree three years ago. I chopped it in January right after I meved it back outside. It's doing great. By the way, these can be pinched just as you would with an atlas cedar or spruce and the needles reduce nicely.

Nice tree Paul. I like how well you have developed these foliage pads. Deodar's are not the most friendly for bonsai....this is really nice though.

Let me tell you, they make beautiful landscape trees.
