Hi all :) I'm new to bonsai and this forum and just wanted to say hello. Does anyone know of any bonsai clues in my area of Maryland that may help me get started? Thanks much!

BigDave - I see that Rising Sun is in the Northeast part of Maryland. If you search the club directories of both the American Bonsai Society & Bonsai Clubs International sites you will find numerous choices for Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. Those lists may not be totally current or accurate, but it is a start. I'm sure there are some fine clubs in the Philly area.

I don't know the traveling distance to your nearest bonsai club - it may not be in your backyard. However you will find much benefit from membership in a good group. Please let us know what you find.
:)

There's one in Bowie, MD, one in Baltimore, and in the opposite direction, Brandywine Bonsai just north of Wilmington.

I was part of the Brandywine club and found that the members did not seem to care for a youngster like myself and seemed a bit aloof. No one was rude but I felt uncomfortable there. BTW I am in Bear Delaware.

Yeah, I'm not a member either-never had been or of any club. I live just north of the DE line near Media, PA.

Thanks for all the great relies. Looks like Branywine bonsai club is the closes. But I think a newcomer friendly club would be better for me! You know, just down to earth, regular folks.

If you're up for a drive, take a trip up to Chase Rosade's place near New Hope, PA.

And if you haven't been down to the National Arboretum in DC to see the vast collection there, you should ASAP.

I agree with rockm. Go to the Arboretum in DC. I got so much inspiration for looking at the trees. I was there for two and a half days, and probably spent 10 hours in the areas with bonsai trees. I could spend hours looking at each tree. Have fun.
