Not sure why this event seems to come and go with no one posting about it... including me. It's the largest annual bonsai event in Southern California, surpassed only by the GSBF show that occurs once every two years.

Here are some photos from the event...

It was a cold morning, and many of us kept ducking into the buildings to warm up. I was really pleased with the turn-out; it seemed like there were quite a few in attendance - from seasoned veterans to new practitioners. I always forget to take enough photos...

One of the tables of raffle pots, with a table of raffle plants (from the famous Nuccio's camellia/azalea nursery).

Saturday's demo included Cesareo Perez, Dennis Makashima, Mel Ikeda, Tom Vuong, Kathy Benson, and Peter Macasieb (aka @maria kapra )

Spent a lot of time catching up with old friends, and comparing notes on the bad weather, and various tree care suggestions. Picked up a few small princess persimmon, and a Japanese beauty berry.

Sad that @Si Nguyen had to work and couldn't join me for this trip. Perhaps for the fall GSBF show!

Thanks for sharing. Looks like you had really good time there.
Is it Japanese winterberry?
Si Nguyen has been loosing his interest in bonsai! We should push him back up again!

No, not a winterberry. I have been looking for a nice winterberry somewhere - and have not found it!

It is a Japanese beautyberry - NOT as nice as this one from Wayne Schoech, but this gives you an idea of what I hope to achieve.

@Si Nguyen is a very busy guy. I think he is too generous with his time. He is one of the most generous people I know. He needs to be more selfish. It would be good for him... and good for his bonsai. We trade trees almost every time I see him. I am always very careful with my Si trees... I cannot kill a single one! They are all alive and hold special places in my garden. He gave me a tree for my 50th birthday... and I hope it will be a masterpiece by the time I turn 100 :)

Thanks for info. It is very nice Japanese beauty berry! I wonder if Japanese winterberry will survive in our climate .
Yes, for sure Si is a very generous man. His artististic design is way exceptional ! You are very lucky to have some of his trees in your collection!

It was also great to see some new ceramic artists with a booth, especially since Jim Barrett no longer has a booth. They had some neat stuff, including some smaller slabs. I picked up this little pot. Unfortunately, I am very bad with names. So I will have to update it when I find their names.

Great photos! You can see my grey haired dad in the far tent with the dark glasses on, that was his tent and sold every tree he brought except for 3.
Was really cool, can't wait till next year!

@macnut thanks for the links. It looks like I didn’t do as good of job ducking out of the frames as I thought I did! Luckily, I didn’t have a BNut shirt on so I could stay more anonymous! Barry shows the artist’s table where I got the above pot. The rounds are by Liz Do and the slabs are by Phil Aupperle.

It was also cool to see the nicely developed Ficus burtt-davyi “nana” for sale by Gary Lai.

Phil and Liz are friends, and they do amazing work. I picked up these little slabs from her.

Next time come up to me and say hi so I can put member names with faces. And if anyone else is camera shy and or in witness protection, let me know and I'll try not to aim the stream your way.

I remember this show, it was the last time we had the bonsaiathon before covid disrupted it the last two years!

Well, we are back this year, and it will be held the first weekend of April, so looking forward selling some trees and seeing my bonsai community once again!! Who is coming from the nutters?
