I just got my money back from paypal since this guy stole $548 off me since Dec 4th. Ordered trees and he kept giving me the run around. Needless to say he quit responding to me on emails and never sent me anything. Today paypal had to pay me back as he had cleared out his account. This guy is a scammer and DO NOT trust him. After our resolutions got resolved today he had the nerve to email me and curse at me after having all my money for 6 weeks and not talking to me. I searched this guy found his phone # and called him and he went insane on the phone, it was actually quit hilarious. SO stay away people this guy has ruined my desire to try bonsai at this point. I am sure he will just change his name or something and be back up and running. He's put of Akron OH so be for warned.

peace

Don't let this one guy ruin your interest in Bonsai. I have been involved in Bonsai since 1993 & only a few of hundreds of people that I've met stand out as "bad apples".

Good luck in your future ventures with Bonsai, find a local club, that is the best way to futher your interest & knowledge in Bonsai.

Hope this helps,

Bob O

Agreed. If you want someone trustworthy to buy from, my favorite nursery just started selling on Ebay; http://myworld.ebay.com/lpg_tree/ This is a local nursery in Sonoma County that I have been buying from for years, and is a staple to the local club's bonsai diet. Very nice people to deal with, and great material. You won't have to look far to find someone nice enough to renew your interest in bonsai and get rid of the bitter taste from your last experience. Good luck, -=Brian=-

Newbie question, Brian:

The nursery you quoted has this olive for sale:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Shohin-European...886?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c18b5b53e

The trunk size is quoted as 1". I've always assumed this meant the diameter of the trunk. In this case it looks way more than an inch. So when trunk size is mentioned in bonsai, does it refer to the width of the trunk looking at the tree from the front?

Thanks.

General understanding is that it is the diameter of the trunk above the roots.

Nebari (root flare) is listed separately since it can vary substantially from the trunk diameter. Two trees with the same diameter trunk can have very different nebari.

Yup. Lone Pine Gardens is "tha bomb". I just bought a trident maple pre-bonsai from them (at the nursery rather than on ebay) for a very fair price. Janet is totally nice and even tolerated having my crazy two-year old running around like a lunatic.:D Highly recommended seller!

Here's the tree, BTW

Good bonsai is a great illusion...look at the last image and you can see somebody is holding it in the palm of their hand1

You're right, Brian. :) I never got as far as looking at the last image.

I second what Bonsai Nut said. Trunk size is diameter above nebari. Most of the time people exaggerate it slightly, but the seller I listed is pretty accurate.
