I don't post here to often, but I can attest to the trees that come from Wabi Sabi. I have purchased 5 different varities of Japanese Black Pine and I have bought several Kishu Shimpaku from him as well. Top notch trees to say the least. He sells mostly pre-bonsai. Good person to deal with and he definetly knows what he is doing. He will go the extra mile with you.

I see some of the trees on ebay. Are you guys dealing with the grower directly or purchasing trees online?

I bought a cork bark JBP 'Ondae' from him last winter. Dealing with Dave was easy, and the tree was really good. I did not deal with eBay, but dealt directly.

yea Dave will even e-mail you pics of all the trees he has available.
he sure e-mailed me a bunch.
he said his growing location is ideal due to lots of southern exposure which the jap. black pines need up in our neck of the woods. he even gave me seven starter jap. larch trees as a bonus which I used for a forest planting.
Dave's the man to call !

I deal with him direct and to back up what Art stated he will send you many pictures of different trees that you are interested in. If you are interested just give him a call he'll be more than happy to help you out.

I went to the site to see what was for sale. I don't see any trees? Do you make a request to get the pictures?

Send him an E-Mail @ wabisabi@rconnects.com or call him on his cell phone 503-310-0724. Tell him Mark from Arizona referred you to him. Explain to him what you are looking for and he will send pictures with prices. He has just about every variety of JBP/JPW, Shimpaku or Shinpaku as he calls them, Maples, Korean Hornbeams and just about everything else.

Thanks guys. I was looking at his stuff on ebay, specifically the crabapple and larch. I can't see the graft well enough on the white pines to make up my mind about them. They all look pretty decent though and are in the range of what I can afford.

I know this is an old thread but I’ll add rather than starting another one. I emailed Dave about a couple of trees. He said at the time he was under a foot of snow and a high wind advisory. He said he’d contact me in the next day or two. 2 days later he contacted me, sent me multiple pics of the trees I asked about, and a little bit about each one. I ordered two, and 48 hours later they were on my porch. I’ll be purchasing from him again.

He’s a go-to for hard to find corker cultivars. Let’s see the loot!

I purchased three maples from him early this spring and was not at all happy. They were all GRAFTED 2-4" up the trunk and very noticeable. I was unaware that the trees were grafted before I bought them...should have asked. The trees had been grown on 1 gallon cans for a long time. Before shipping he sawed the root ball in half. After I had them for awhile some of the branches on one tree started turning yellow. I sent him pictures of that and asked his thoughts on that. He then got pretty cranky and said he would send a refund. I wasn't asking for a refund, just wanted to know what might be going on. He got even crankier and we did not end on very good terms. I really don't know why he got so cranky. Just my experience. Peter

David DeWire, of Wabi-Sabi Bonsai in Hansville, WA, passed away in March of 2021.
His wife of 40 years, Gretchen, is in her 70's and unable to care for Dave's legacy of trees.
She has been selling the trees at incredibly reasonable prices to fund her retirement as they had less than $5,000 when David passed. Additionally, her mobile home is in need of some serious repairs.
Someone went to her house and stole many of her trees including ripping some beautiful and rare trees out of the ground....in JULY (for those that don't know trees, this is the worst time to dig one up). She is a generous and kind-hearted woman and I can't imagine how violated she must feel.
While it's unlikely that the trees will be recovered, or that they will survive even if they are, I hope that the bonsai community (and tree lovers in general) will come to her aid and donate the value of the stolen trees to her retirement fund.

What a sad day. Dave was a kind, hardworking and honest man. He also loved his cork barks. Condolences to Gretchen and the rest of his family.
