In my town there is a local Christmas tree farm that has Virginia Pine. People go and cut them down during the holiday season. I was thinking about reaching out the owner, (he is friend of a friend) about buying one and digging it up.. then i thought..

what about all the tress that were cut down during the holiday rush.. wouldn't their roots still be viable to dig up? like a "Trunk Chop".. i'm sure i could acquire several of these.. LOL

This is the stuff i think while i am at work. LOL

Conifers, as a general rule, will not sprout like broad leafed (angiosperms) species will. A conifer, even a branch on one, without foliage is dead (again, generally speaking).

offer to bring "clean fill" and fill in your hole. That way he doesn't have to deal with a crater

My co worker next to my cubicle works there.. i asked him what they do with the LEFTOVER Trees in an area that was used for the season that no one wanted.. he said they just plow them over for a future crop.. those just might be the ones to bargin for :)

those would be the trees, except... I have to imagine the have massive straight trunks with little taper. I'd be loking around at the younger stuff personally

@Vance Wood has a tree from a Christmas tree farm. I think it’s a Scots Pine. It’s very nice.

@Warlock, a “yamadori” is a collected wild tree. Not something from an orchard. Many nursery trees are grown out in fields before they are balled and burlaped, or put in nursery cans to be sold.

Stop by in December and ask if you can dig, tell him you're doing Japanese gardening and you're looking for something with movement. Maybe they have some rejects that aren't straight enough for Christmas
