It is the few trees, and people, who are open to all thoughts for the sake of learning that really keep us going. Those are quite few.

Most people would rather argue about "what is a bonsai master" for the 1000th time or gripe about "newbie stubbornness" than invest the time to think about a tree someone posts and offer thougthful comments or virts. I get it, it's way easier to spout off about the former topics and it's really easy to say "great tree" when someone posts a truly great tree. But most threads get little in the way of response so people stop posting trees.

Lol, i have no idea what you are trying ro say here :)

Yeah I thought you were setting up a hackling for me.
Because of the rock throwers.

What sucks most is the people with good teachers are the ones who cause so much shit because "only they are right".

There is more gold from the self taught.

I just hate contradictory information, and it is everywhere.

You can't hold such a strong stance on some things, when it is not the ONLY way to success.

You're right.

Gleam the gold for your own garden!

Ahw shit. Sitting on a bus for four hours. Not ready to sleep nor do actual work.

Should do something more useful than discuss shit with import Koreans ;)
Did you just.......call ......me......an 'import' Korean?

I feel like I should rebuff your comment but am not quite sure how to do that. A Grolsh or Guldendraak may help

I am not sure I would recommend user stats as a recommendation for highly regarded.
If someone might navigate around on the page of notable members, one might find those with the highest reaction scores. Which is usually associated with postings of a members work.

Of course this is not a fool proof method but it’s a start for someone new to the site. But I assume you have an argument about that also.

If you want?
Of course these things help. What I think might be real good one is a list for member with say, over 500 posts, the ratio between posts and responses. Lots of posts - lots of responses?

Talk to Greg, maybe he could get that worked out for you.

I started one with the tree in my avatar. I basically said ok this is an initial style from my intro to bonsai class and I'm just wondering about next steps with styling and am I at least on the correct path to style it. And 2/3 of what I got was "leave it rest". And it's like, yes i appreciate that and I am leaving it rest but I want some idea for the future. I didn't ask for immediate care advice, just future styling. And it was hard for people to stay on the topic of what needs done with the styling. Ironically a similar thread is how this entire thread started, except that dude flew over the cliff. He probably won't come back lol.

Funny you mention it. The user stats actually did end up being a big long thread discussing the validity of them. I can't locate it at the moment. But it was discussed what could be gleaned from them and then there was also a derivative discussion (not intentionally I don't think) on "resumes" for users to post like their trees or experience.

On a lighter note. Just saw a really annoying Peter Chen video which advocated leaving wire on indefinitely and that they used the technique in the 80's in Japan.

Kind of failed to note thst no tree done using that style is allowed in a show, their sale value is well essentially worthless and its really bad for the long term health of the tree.

Anyway you can all share my pain now because my blood pressure went up.

Listen up newbies .......if you leave wite on your tree . .

I will look for you

I WILL find you......

And

I WILL.....

.

Lol I watched that video a few weeks ago and went
Seriously I don't know why I even watch his stuff.

If I pruned beanches like that my life would end.......

Watch.....how to prune pine bonsai......
It killed me..... I'm dead.

Cutting candles.....with scissors.....not pinching?
Peter is responsible for my murder.

It's not an argument when there are facts. Leaving wire on is WRONG. Always wrong....... I WILL find you if you even THINK of it.

I’m sure you include me in this train of thought.

So, you think it’s better to flail away in your own garden, trying this and that, maybe getting lucky and stumbling upon something that works, but usually not. Rather than taking classes, learning techniques that are proven to provide successful results?
