I collected this pyracantha a few days ago. I thought I got a pretty good sized root ball, but right now it doesn't look very happy. Is there anything I can do for it besides cross my fingers?

I think it was a sucker off a nearby hedge because I had to saw through about a 2 inch lateral root. I'm hoping that wasn't the only thing giving it life.

Thanks.

I don't how hardy they are, but give it a week or so and just monitor it. I would also suggest putting it in a shadier spot with maybe a plastic cover over it to give a greenhouse effect for a few until you see start to recover.

If anything can survive your collection, pyracantha can. Not to say they always will, but..... I've collected several with little to no roots and they've survived and thrived. Just use standard after care - keep out of full sun, keep moist, mist often or cover with clear plastic. It will make it or not at this point and there's not much else you can do about it. Oh, they air layer very easily too, if you want to try that route with your hedge.

Thanks. I've moved it to more shade.
