Happy Spring, Nuts!

Took some valuable quarntined time the past few days to work on some trees. The first is a root over rock JM Mikawa Yatsubusa I've been planning. I acquired the rock for an absolute steal from Milton at Cass Bonsai gardens back before they closed, and the tree was picked up at a winter sale. Heard this variety is a slow grower, but hopefully I'll have something nice in a few years!

Here are both the tree and the rock beforehand:IMG_20200318_131834.jpgIMG_20200318_131825.jpg

Afterwards I spent time carefully arranging the roots. I used some cedar scraps to spread roots near the base. Then three sections of wire/aquarium tubing were used to push roots against the rock. Here's the tree secured:IMG_20200318_135258.jpgIMG_20200318_135256.jpgIMG_20200318_135254.jpg

Everything was covered with sphagnum, wrapped with shrink wrap and tin foil, and placed in 1:1 akadama and pumice.

Nice work. You did a great job with matching the roots to the rock.
I suspect over time you’ll want to shorten and replace the actual trunk itself to keep the eye on the ROR portion.

I actually got the tree from a local nursery in STL. It was sold as "seedling of Mik. yat." so I don't think it's any older than 2-3 years.
