This will be the main display bench in my Bonsai Pit. A number of years ago I was able to get some “free” lumber shorts from a local mill that was going out of business. The guy running it acquired low grade utility old growth logs from various sources and was able to produce some really nice affordable wood.......by the time I got to the closing out sale, there was only some shorts and a couple of 2x4’s, the owner said help yourself....didn’t want $ so later in the week, I bought him a 12 pack of his favourite brew.
As my wife reminds me every once in a while, I am somewhat of a pack rat......always keeping things especially wood...for that special unknown future project. Went through a few sketches before I landed on this design.
The bench main frame is Douglas Fir 2x3, the top (2x6) and decorative spindles( 2x2) are Western Red Cedar and the top support spindles are Yellow (Alaskan) Cedar. Applied some clear preservative, with a goal of letting it go a natural grey in years to come.
