I have struggled with this tree. When it came to me it had soft scale.
And looked like someone had spilled motor oil on it. I treated it several times and now it’s good.
Next spring I will defoliate and cut again.
Maybe not as aggressively as before.
I want to get some fine branching in the canopy.

Well I won’t be trimming like that again in late fall. It was slow to recover and struggled all winter. Doing much better now.
I may try to expand the canopy this year.

Clean looking setup and nice trees to go with!!

Sounds like a few more degrees will be beneficial for you. I run a 600w hps that I’ve had for years and it puts out a quit a bit of heat compared to the LEDs.

My setup allows for a lot of growth during the winter with high humidity and heat. I just experimented this winter with some of my ficus. Repotting (easy on roots), hard pruning of silhouette/branch selection and cuttings were taken this winter. 100% success.

Not with cuttings obviously. Tiger bark cuttings around 30% success rate, willow leaf cuttings around 90% success, and this other bigger leaf variety’s around 90% also.
Gotta love ficus!
I dont recommend repots during the winter, although my setup does allow me nice winter growth rates.

Thanks. This was my first year at this house so I will have to make a few changes for next winter. I will do emergency repots in winter but no root work. In my previous location I had great sunlight and my lighting was really supplemental. I bit different here. I think my lighting is ok. May have overwatered a bit because I did get some root rot on a couple of them. Will make corrections and move forward. :)

Stunning little plant. Any idea how old it is?
