So I received this motha-lickah via mail for a relatively dang good value. (The nursery actually provided me with a picture of a few trees in a line for “pickin”.. not IDEAL.. but a heap more helpful then completely sight unseen) A Forsythia, Show-Off (tm), Sugar Baby (tm)... I was fascinated by it’s truly “dwarf” nature, and concentration of flowers...

Upon receiving and digging down slightly, I noticed that, not only that there were DEFINITELY two specimens.. kind of what I thought from the picture and actually WANTED, but ALSO.. that a few buds had half-burst due to the “warm time” in the box...

So I buried the topsoil layer back up, confident in my findings.. pruned back relatively hard.. going behind the half-burst buds, sealed up the cuts, and stuck them into my cold-frame..

Repot in Spring.

Are you planning on taking them apart? Or will you develop in a joint masterplan (Which I think you will, based on the last pict)?
In the first option: Separate sooner rather than later. If you can keep them from too deep freezing ..

I have a 30 year old forsythia in my back yard we have tried to kill for two years and can't seem too. Tried to dig it up but can't seem to find all the root.

They are very hardy I will give them that.

I tried to pull it out with a pickup and it would not budge. Even poured pure glyphosate on it because my wife wants it gone. We have cut it to the ground and it grows back 7 ft tall in a couple months. Amazing....ly annoying bush.

Alright!

So what I MISSED documenting...
(Was repotted and pruned back, Feb 2021)
The second tree died off after I accidentally cooked this tree from
the bottom, upwards, last year...

The bigger tree had survived.. but limped all season.

This year, specimen was placed into a stone age pot!

More substrate was added after photo shoot.

It's right beside the house otherwise I would consider it. The thing truly is bulletproof. It didn't even blink at the glyphosate.
Try cutting off at ground level, drill out a core maybe an inch deep, deeper if sizable and you remain in wood,
and pour in - tough weed killer by Roundup concentrate.
Keep topping off as it is absorbed a couple days. I killed 2 good sized Aspen trees this way
one of which was 20 some feet away from the stump I drilled several 1" cores out of with an auger bit.
Also took care of hundreds of smaller soldiers.

Hmmm..

It DID extend much growth, and then received defoliation..

But I must not have taken a picture.
