If you can smartly carve out the reverse taper and remove the little branches causing it, I think you can use most of the rest.

Welcome to Crazy!

Nice.

We had those last season. Maybe you have, but wait until you see the roots in the pot....should be stuffed to the brim.
What is said above. You will have some work reducing the inverse taper, like chopping half the canopy.

Seiju Elm first time I've heard of it being in a nursery. Developed by Carl Young at his Seiju En bonsai nursery right here in little ol Lodi, Ca.

Seiju has small leaves so suits smaller bonsai very well but can also be used for larger trees. Some growers have reported occasional die back of branches.

This one is well suited to broom style. Just cut all branches back to a few inches from the trunk to form an umbrella canopy. New shoots will grow out to fill out the profile. You may also have to remove any over thick or crowded main branches to allow space.
For informal upright chop the main section with the reverse taper and use the first branch as a new trunk. Chop it short too to get better taper and new branches to develop the tree. That will require more regrow and some future chops.

GREAT potential for 2 good trees.
I personally would layer the main segment out. But if you are game, try growing it as a cutting. It could work, according to many.
As is, I would always focus on the swelling in the main trunk..

This looks like a very viable option. I think I will have to think on this one. Thank you for your input!!
