I need usage tips on Biogold!

Hello everyone,

For fertilizing I'm considering, quite seriously, on using Biogold as organics. I heard it's effective, and it is the only effective organic fertilizer that's available to me. I thought of Miracle-Gro's blood & bone meal, but that's not available to me at this moment.

My question is, how much do you need to use (in pellets), so I don't give too much that it gets expensive in usage? I read about a few, like 5 pallets in a pot size of approximately 14x9x5 in dimensions. And how many times in a year do I have to re-feed a bonsai with Biogold?

P.S.: I'd rather not want people to recommend me to use a different particular fertilizer, since most aren't available for me, anyway.

Cheers to bonsai,

Ken

You mean PELLETS? Pallets are several hundred pounds worth...

As far as pellets go, you can place them every couple of inches all over the soil's surface with no problems. Deeper pots--like over three inches deep might take more.

As far as replacement goes, it depends on how much the tree is watered. They tend to break down more quickly as they get wet. I usually replace mine twice in the growing season...

As a past user of bio gold ten years ago and readily posted its effects on bonsai forums, I might ask where you are located as bio gold is not readily available in the USA. In the US there are literaly hundreds of effective cheaper products available that will do as good or better job.

If on the other hand you are from the European Continent. or Asia your post will make much more sense.

Awesome stuff. I would still be useing it if I had a better source. The only thing I did not like was the fact that the product is terrible about clogging the soil surface and staining pots and benches. It leaves an almost oily slimy covering on the surface of the soil as it breaks down requiring cleaning during the growing season a couple times.

Getting a tree ready for an exhibit takes a little more time due to the sludge and stained pot as the dark syrup gets into the calcium crust and is unsightly. Makes trees grow and keeps them healthy which is what a good fertlizer is supposed to do. I have found less messy and better alternatives for myself.

Smoke, are you still using the tabs from Gro-Power? I used them this season but did have some clogging of pure inorganic mix. I bought some empty tea bags to try with the tabs next season.

Me too, black slime all over the surface. I've only found empty tea bags on amazon. If there's a better source I'd appreciate knowing where.

The members at Midori get their empty tea bags at the local Ranch 99 markets. I can ask for the specific name of the store if you'd like.

I get my tea bags (which I use for tea) at mountainroseherbs.com

I have not noticed any slime useing the gro power tabs. I do get piles of "ash" for lack of a better term. Where is the slime coming from? Humates are the cause of the slime in Bio Gold and the reason the fertrilizer is so good. The humates in Bio Gold are from composted waste while the humates in Gro Power tabs while also being from waste are in much smaller quanities. The fertilizer component in the Gro Power tabs are chemical in composition rather than organic which Bio Gold is. I also use the bag fertilizer by gro power which has humates derived from leonardite rather than organic compost with an organic fertilizer. A picture can be seen of me with the twenty pound bag on the Bonsai Study Group site in my avatar.

Humates derived from leonardite do not slime and are freely dissolved in water.

Also for you guys fighting over tea bags, just get a roll of tulle at the hobby shop, the stuff used for favors and veils in weddings. Wrap two or three tabs in the tulle and rubber band it. Just throw it away when done. A roll for about 6 bucks will last about twenty years.

I get the ash with the tabs. I am going to try the tea bags next season.

Smoke, I see Gro Power has several bag formulations - which is your current favorite?

Thanks

Frank

Ash when it's dry, slime when it's wet, and it's mostly wet because it's a %^&&*ing rain forest.

The Gro Power Plus is 5-3-1 though it has humus from compost. I thought the bag was from leonardite but I was wrong. Both the tabs and the granule are from compost.

Both the tabs and the granule derive their fertilizer from chemical compounds. No organics here. the fertilizer is really good and I use it during the growing season.
