what do you think about these? He has several listings.

So the question is, are these worth it? :)

“Mikawa” JBP is referring to the Japanese Island where the trees are found. The JBP native to that island are thought to have nicer bark than JBP native to other places. So seeds collected from trees on Mikawa island are said to be “Mikawa”.

Other named varieties are reproduced asexually. Primarily grafts.

I know absolutely nothing about them, defer to those that do.

How much should I offer him?

With about 6-10 years ground grown trunk development might be worth asking price. Today would not give over maybe $55-60 for them. Suspect seller would balk at thiso_O

Interesting I've never seen a Japanese white pine at HD, most always Austrian white pine.
These are white pine at our local nursery not sure if they are appropriate for bonsai.

Sometimes you can find Thunderhead Japanese black pine. Read up about them if you decide to buy one as they don't like to play bonsai very well.
Is it the same as thunbergii?

I am familiar with that wholesale nursery and I am sure all those are grafted. As I said, I have never seen a Japanese White Pine at Home Depot.
