Quaking Aspen group.

The friends school of Minnesota has a big plant sale annually at the Minnesota State fairgrounds.

This year I got the opportunity to go. I saw the quaking aspens and thought that was a no brainer.
I purchased six young plants. I wish I would’ve gotten seven.

Wonderful display from rock to creative pot to trees. Even without development trees look good as planted and separating into 4 and 2 looks better than one single group. Well done.

I bought a few more to add to this group, but when I dug down to plant them, there were a lot of roots from the other trees so I figured I’d wait till I replant the whole group.

Fourth-ed? I'm growing forests of cottonwood which is a very closely-related species, so I'm excited to see others venturing into the populus genus. This is a really fun family of tree species to work with.

Sad to say these fell victim to rabbits early winter last year. They really did a number on them. 3 didn’t make it. The other 3 I decided to plant in the ground to really recover.
The good news is that the 3 remaining have doubled in size, and will be nice and big when I replant the forest with other new smaller ones.

Oh, and this winter hardware cloth is going around everything tempting to chew on.

I have an aspen in a pot for 3 years and it just started pushing up a daughter tree.

I’ve got an aspen on my bench - I think it a great species for bonsai!
