This is my old Taiwan Ficus in a old blue pot I bought for it maybe six years ago its getting kind of bushy.

Gave it a haircut and wired a few branches back to open the trunk up and cleaned it up a bit, it had been over a year since I cleaned or wired it, besides pinching off the profuse of leaf growth this tree exhibits.

By the way, I have strived for 15 years to keep this tree that small as that is the way I like them to be.

it seems that you succeeded at reducing the leaf size? Do you defoliate the tree? I have a few Taiwan ficus and they always seem to eventually get back to regular leaf size.

The wind storm earlier this year blew this old tree off my bench and busted the pot and a root off the Ficus, and smashed some foliage. I cut it back some and shortened some branches to run the growth back some towards the trunk to fit it into the smaller pot. It looks pretty nice so far but still needs more work. I miss the old blue lotus pot, my wife says it was overm 8 years ago I got it, times flies when your aging.

This is the other side, its a nice enough pot, I just wish it were blue. Actuslly I wish it were my old blue lotus pot.

Linlaoboo, I defoliate this several times a year, the main thing that keeps the leaf size down is keeping it in the full sun.

Nice little tree. Looks like you know how to keep it healthy in Ohio. If it were mine, I'd prune back hard to get some ramification. Of course, it may respond differently there than it would here.

Also, Bonsaimonk has some decent blue-glazed pots that are relatively inexpensive (in case you're looking to get it back in something blue). I don't think they have lotus pots though. I just got my shipment that I bought with my birthday gift certificate. Well-packed, nice pots. I got one blue one, and the glaze is actually a bit darker than on the web-site (which is fine with me).
