I heard this about wild collecting kinnikinic and manzanita. I used to work in a nursery where we collected wild seed and germinated it. These went through several repottings before being sold and seemed fine. I'm hoping that because this is a nursery plant it is more tolerant.

I got invasively curious and discovered that the kinnickinnick that was replanted in the early spring has put out a tonne of small roots. DSC_0731.JPG

Being not dead is notable because it is very hot here and I am sun roasting the kinnickinnick next to my cacti. I am watering the heck out of it tho.
