Where to buy Satsuki?

Hello friends,

I have recently gained interest in having an azalea bonsai but I am stuck as to where I can find mature and thick trees to make one out of - particularly satsuki. I cannot find a single large, mature satsuki online that’s not already a bonsai and isn’t small. Does anyone know where I can buy mature satsuki azalea bushes at a reasonable price? I don’t want one that’s already a bonsai. I live in central Florida.

Thanks in advance.

What is a reasonable price to you?

Anything under 300 is most desirable. Just bought a new car and I’m not trying to spend ridiculous amounts as of now
When you mean large.....explain? Large bush? Large single trunk?

Those single trunks you see already trained as bonsai take decades to get the big.....the same for large bushes.

I know White's azalea nursery has large bushes as I've been there and seen them in person, but does not ship.

I’m looking for a thick single trunk right now. The size of the bush itself does not matter to me, I’m just in search of a thick trunk that’s not worked (unworked material is typically less costly and I want to style a tree of my own)

I checked out the website, I’m fairly certain that the trees they have are only local pickup. Plus they don’t seem to have a large selection. Any other ideas?
He ships, send him an email. If he doesn't have it he may know someone who does.

I appreciate it, I will email him.
Do you know of any nurseries that grow and ship satsukis just like any other tree, not as bonsai?

I have made deals to drive out to White's azalea nursery to pick up and ship requested azaleas. If you are interested PM me.

Scott Lee on FB sells them, so does Matt Smith for Brussel’s.

A few other options, which I have not purchased from. Maybe others who have will weigh in.
I know nothing about this one, but think this is an importer:

Not well-maintained site, may be best to contact him directly:

Store is showing closed for maintenance, but when up, it does have good trees:

Best of luck.

The first site Brian linked above is for Darren Wong at soh juen. I was referred to him by Chris from telperion a few years back. I didn’t end up purchasing anything but he was quick to respond and had decent stock, more than what the website shows for sure.

I know Leo has purchased from the second site Brian linked above, that is Dave Kreutz. I reached out to him a bunch of times with no response. Shame as I think he has a lot of good stock.

also an option is nasbc.com. i haven’t purchased but spoke with the owner Rick a few years ago. Site is down for maintenance but when up should have a lot of high quality trees listed, most on the expensive side.

also may what to check out the FB auction pages. Shannon Salyer often has some interesting affordable satsuki.

My on Satsuki came from Scott Lee. But I'm not sure if he has rough stock. Which was why I didn't mention him. Matt Smith would be able to line you up as well as Brian mentioned. Thing is.. you don't want a worked tree. Or you think you don't.

I've gotten trees off both those men. Good guys too.

I don’t think there is much of a market for what you are looking for. The nursery biz sells domestic azaleas, not usually satsuki.

Dealers, like the ones mentioned above, mostly deal with importing from Japan. I think, tbh, that satsuki are so easy to propogate, grow and export, you might as well find a more finished tree.

If you can get a hold of Dave Kruetz he has many great trees at that price point. I worked with him when I lived in St Louis.

I was thinking about that Bonsai Import Company.

The exposed Root ones seemed "within a range of that price".

Don't remember if the were satsuki.
