This tree was growing into a wire fence. I dug it out and planted in a container. It had a very thick tap root which makes me doubt that it will make it as a bonsai. Could anyone help me to identify it and give an advise how to handle it. Thank you!

Red mulberry... assuming it is from native landscape and not purchased from a store :) Red mulberry (Morus rubra) is the only mulberry native to north America. Everything you ever wanted to know about Chicago mulberries:

Note that the leaves change shape and lose their lobes as the branch extends and matures This is a white mulberry, but the image illustrates what I'm talking about.

Pretty much bulletproof. I picked one up last fall and it is the most vigorously growing plant I have.

I been eyeballing some growing between a house and a concrete slab.

Thinking even they can be stretched out to believable. Shit....dope enough to make a 2d image!

I haven't found a mulberry that won't have "shitty growth habits".

Gotta be diligent about multiple shoots in the same location.

If we are aware of it, the frustration can be dealt with and strengthen us....

But if we are looking for "Japanese Maple Pruning Basics", but the basics can't apply, it's an unhealthy situation.

Don't know if you caught that thread, but it has been bugging me, that no one addresses, likely because they haven't had the pleasure of uneffing one, the fact that some trees grow with a habit so poor for bonsai, they should really be burnt.

This is taking into account the initial investment+time in+a new tree with better growth.

The relief is worth all of it!

I was eyeballing my Fruit bowl today, after it showed itself out from wherever the hell I tucked it....

Thinking about tossing a leaning spruce or 2 In it.

Oh I love it so! It's going to force my wiring hand just to display a bit more wickedness! It is making Me stronger!

I am loving my mulberry and I think it is showing lots of potential, though it is still young.
