Am I Honest Enough.....

a relative of mine was fired several times in a row. The last time was the best. He was fired because he had brought in more business than his direct boss. In order not to look bad, this relative was fired. I needed to go out an buy more salt to believe that story.

@sorce ,

I want to help you. I don’t agree with all of your opinions, but what’s important is that we’re all members of this community. A community that I am very thankful for. But I am not willing to lend you $1,000.

I am, however, going to send you a PM about working together on one or more “custom” commissioned pots for my collection. I’m more than happy to pay a fair price for a “custom” pot, which of course carries a higher value than a “non-custom” pot.

I’m posting this here, so that perhaps others will want to do the same.

Why is that all?

I have posted a few times in this thread already.
You either want to hear it or you don't.
Right now it seems you don't so there is nothing more that I can add that would be worth your time to read or that would do nothing but anger you more.

I am sorry that your family is having a rough time getting that mortgage, and I really hope that changes for you. You are and will be in my prayers. I can not do any more beyond that.

Sounds like the kind of thing that happens in unions in my field....better not do good, hard, honest work, or else you make your boss and everyone else look bad....or actually you make them look like what they are, which is lazy ass fakers.
Sad story, regardless of where it happened. The boss should be deported to Gitmo.

I am sincerely not angry.

I think anger is a foolish emotion.

Anger only serves to postpone understanding, which is a waste of time.

You get it.

There is a large hidden "honesty" component too.
Too many people will expect you to stand around doing nothing because the customer, or client doesn't know any better.

I can not bring myself to be ok with standing around stealing, especially when I could be at home with my family.

There is nothing worse than a day that seems like 2 weeks because you're not just head down busting ass.

I won't let someone else turn me into a thief like this. Nope.

I just watched a thing on the "change order" scammers. Been there. Can't do it.

What's worse worse is these fellers are earning "prevailing wage" on these jobs, and paying us just half. So the longer it takes, the longer they make.

Truth, I'd be more Ok with it if the bastards on our own team were just up front about it. Tell me we are ripping someone off, and I won't be so eager to work.

People are just ignorantly dishonest all around.

Sheep.

Yeah. ....and even worse, around here, being so close to DC....the unions, especially certain extra special unions, get fed all the biggest and most lucrative government jobs.
They usually screw things up during these big jobs, and then its a private sector guy's problem until the building gets bulldozed....and the cycle repeats.

Its also why this common joke exists; when a guy walks up on a group of coworkers standing around talking, however briefly, he says, "Hey! What is this, a Union meeting?!" and they all have a chuckle.

Ok… so go get a job that’s not a Union job.
Hey.....if a union job was all I could get....I'd be there eventually.....if I couldn't do it on my own somehow.

.......now public sector union job.....that's a bridge I might not be able to cross.
😆

Jealous??? OMG, that’s laughable!

Assuming? Maybe.

All I know about you is what you’ve posted. If that’s not the true story, and you don’t want people to assume stuff, then you should either not post anything at all, or post the truth. Reality.

Look…

You come on here with a sad story, and then beg fir 235 people to each give you $1,000.

There’s several of us who have told you to “get a job”. I even went so far as to tell you how you might get started in the pond building business, which you say you want to do.

And have you done anything?

How would @Adair M be jealous?

He is retired, ie doesn't have to work, so I assume he had a good paying job at one point. He gets to sit by his pond working on his trees and drinking Shiners

Oh, yes. I worked. In high school I played tennis. I worked part time jobs taking care of clay tennis courts and had a side hustle of stringing tennis rackets.

In college, I gave tennis lessons.

I had professional career as a data processing consultant. Then started a side hustle of buying, fixing, flipping and renting houses. Also saved some of what I earned, and invested it in the stock market. And let it grow. (There’s that “patience” thing…)

Now I’m retired, and I’m letting my money work for me. I don’t have to work for money anymore. I used to work for money, but since I was patient, I gave it time to grow. Now, it works for me. My house is paid off. My car is, too. My investments make more money each month than I can spend.

But, I guess I’m not as smart as Sorce! I don’t know how to hunt boar in the woods with a spear!

I will drink the occasional Shiner. I actually prefer a glass of red wine! The koi pond is nice…

Around here, most “private sector” (non union?) guys are trash. The good ones end up being organized in so they can make a real wage.

We do leave non union the strip malls, and residential hack work because we cost too much. Sometimes non union gets prevailing wage to do public work because our collective bargaining agreement is so strong.

No chance mom and pop plumbing or electric could build a 400 million dollar apple/amazon/google data center, or a stadium.

Happy IBEW member here, call me when the non union electricians are making 80$ an hour before benefits like my guys do.
Most large trade unions are Private sector by the way, I talk to the owner of my company all the time.

I am not far from that myself hopefully.

I also worked every summer while I was in high school, went to college, worked while in college, worked a week day job and a weekend job during summers in college. Worked a few years when I graduated college at a job I hated but I did it because I needed to pay for the roof over my head, food and car I drove.

Got a new job and started grad school part time while working full time. That was the hardest part of my life, working and going to school. There is no time for anything but work and school, but I had to do it because it paid the bills and the degree was going to pay for itself with better job opportunities.

I started working where I am now, finished masters degree and began putting 15 to 20 percent of my pay away for retirement. Started putting it away later than I should have by at least 10 years so had to catch up. I have a good job, with decent pay and yes there are some days I get frustrated and just want to quit but I am so close to the possible end, I have to hang on.

Our house is paid too and we don't have kids unless you count the dogs 😆. I am one of those fortunate people that will get a pension. I'll have my 30 years for full eligibility in 5 years. I still worry if I'll have enough to be able to retire. My sister says I'm nuts and will be fine, but I still keep getting up and going to work every day and keep putting as much as I can away.

I completely understand everyone here’s standpoint.. HAVE to do what YOU have to do to care for/protect those you love.

I just HAVE to point out..

That when you have kids.. it’s an ENTIRELY different game..

Or if you made bad choices, like roughly 60 percent of people in your post-high school/college years... it sets you back enough that you basically have to start over...

Then.. if you have BOTH... that “gravy-train” becomes idealized and SO unrealistic to obtain...

So we alter our IDEA.. of what that “Gravy-Train” IS...

Kudos to those who were wise, early on... and most likely were presented opportunities/expectations that some never had during development, and “made it” in the classical sense... I know many people like this.. They have earned EVERY iota of their happiness...

But, it’s important to understand... that’s only half or less.. of people...

Once you KNOW it.. you own it, though... so from this discussion FOWARD.....

;)
