I found something similar on 2 different blobs of paste this past season.
One tree’s cut paste looked like small birds had landed on the top of the trunk and dug their claws into the paste
On the other tree it seemed slugs were eating some of the cut paste every night, it had clearly defined little slug-sized gnaw marks on it
Hmm...got me. Doesn't seem like rodent - their incisors are way out in front of the molars. Fox and possum would probably leave pointy holes, not oblong like this.
