Hello everyone. I've been milling around bonsai groups on FB in my free time and came accross a Schefflera for sale that has a very decent trunk. I was not planning on spending anymore money on bonsai (near impossible, I know), but I haven't really seen any other Schefflera with this kind of trunk. For those of you with Schefflera experience, is this an abnormally good specimen? The owner says it was grown in the ground for 10+ years and chopped back after reaching 6ft.

It is an excellent schefflera! Most are multi-trunk with aerial roots--nothing wrong with the banyan style. But I've never seen a single trunk schefflera with such good development of the trunk. I'd buy it if it was in my price comfort range.

Quite high praise for this tree! I also have only ever seen the banyan style.

The deal did not go through as the owner did not feel comfortable shipping such a tree cross-country, which is very understandable. At the very least, I now know what a superb Schefflera looks like.

Have you been to Timeless Trees Nursery in Rosenberg? I've been going there the past 2 weekends and they have some good material for great prices. There will be a big sale at a house in October, because the owners are moving so prices will most likely be amazing. When you make a purchase, Hurley will add you to his list and he will send details there soon. They just had 1/2 off on junipers and 25% off on tropicals. Worth the drive. They are very knowledgeable so dont be shy in asking them questions!

The discount period, I believe is no more, but I'm sure they will have some more in the future. They're probably having those sales to make room for new stock coming in.

Too bad, but there will always be more!
And about the house you mentioned, do you have any more info on that?

Not much about the sale in the house, I just overheard him talking about it coming in October. Follow them on Facebook and maybe also try following Houston bonsai group; I wouldn't be surprised if they announce it there too. Hurley will be the one valuing the trees for sale and he said he would not be making them hugely expensive as he would like to have sold them all in one day, as he's volunteering for the lady selling the trees and doesn't want to be there for three days during the weekend. So I'm sure many deals to be had there!

Ok thanks. Will definitely shoot them an email about it.
