I just recently acquired my first Amur Maple. The nebari is really good, but I possibly may do some root grafts to improve it further. Has anyone ever successfully root grafted an Amur?

Thanks!

No, I have not tried to root graft Amur.

But Amur maples respond so well to just about every bonsai technique that I have thrown at it - pruning, root work, bending, cutting propagation - that I would be very surprised if it gave any trouble with root grafting.

Interested to hear others’ reports, though.

I took some cuttings this year for grafting stock….

I think @MACH5 has a fantastic thread out there somewhere on this very topic. Thought it was an Amur but might have been an arakawa.

Thank you so much, but I already messaged him. He has done many root grafts, but never on his Amur. I may try it on the back of the tree and see what happens.
