I am from the S.F. Bay area. A member of Yamato Bonsai Kai. and I work part time at Grove Way Bonsai Nursery in Hayward, CA.
Some time ago a large juniper styled by John Naka was purchased from this nursery and brought back to the Denver area - we believe for some kind of exhibit.
I am visiting in Lakewood, just outside of Denver and if possible would like to go see or contact people who can give me information on the whereabouts of this tree.
I write for the Yamato Newsletter and would like to take pictures and include same in our October newsletter along with an article about the tree.
Please email me back at lubedardjr@yahoo.com with any information you might have and if possible please forward to anyone who might have info on this tree or a John Naka exhibit.
thank you,
Lu Bedard

I don't know anything about the Denver Naka juniper, but I did want to say I am a big fan of Grove Way Bonsai Nursery :) Haven't been there in years, but I purchased a great white pine and cork bark black pine there. I thought it had a fantastic selection - including at the time trees that were brought in bare root from Japan (I don't know if you still do this or not).

Good luck on your search.

Sorry I can't be of assistance either.

I am looking forward to attending the Yamato Bonsai Show this October. I may send you an email and ask for some more detailed info on the show and how much time I should set aside, as well as if there is an opportunity to swing by the Grove Way Bonsai Nursery to look around. It's worth noting I am traveling from Florida for this show as well and a few weeks in California for bonsai related vacation time.

Good luck with your quest. I would be interested in hearing the stories on the tree.

I am not sure if by "a John Naka exhibit" you meant live or print or on-line. Either way, you may find "A Tribute to John Naka" worth the look. Another great place for Naka is "John Yoshio Naka - In Celebration of a Grand Master's Life"
