I say no. 1 because I want another some day. I kinda hate this tree it’s just a stick in a pot , it’s not flowering or growing fruit yet. I tied branches down so it wouldn’t looks like a broom stick. In a grow box it will go next spring.

How long have you had it? I have a little one that has bloomed on and off for the last year, even inside over the winter.

I don't remember how long it took for mine to bloom, but you will be happy when it does. :)
My seedlings are ALMOST starting their third year (they sprouted in a November).. and they appeared to be making DIFFERENT buds... RIGHT before I pruned them back. 🤣

So.. next season, for me, most likely.

Nice pom, OP... if you treat them right, they pay back.

🤓

Got a nice sacrificial branch popping out bottom to give the trunk some more girth. Not sure if going to put in a bigger training pot or small flat in spring .
But it’s definitely grown since first posted. Put some wire lightly around branches to tame alittle and to not hurt leaves… since the string was starting to degrade. Starting to like it again.
Leaves were yellowish when first got it , now it’s green and yellow , I think it’s cause it’s fertilized every week with fish emulsions, since started doing that noticed it got taller and the sacrifice shoot really took off. Watering every other day w temperature drop/ rainy weather

To my knowledge that low branch is more likely to be a sucker that will take strength from the top of the tree - unless you're looking for a multi-trunk design, my understanding is that it is best to remove those. Just FYI. Pomegranate suckers easily - I'm finding some on a regular basis that need to be removed on mine!

In terms of pot size, don't you want to only double or triple the size of the pot? I was wondering about this myself - if you throw a seedling in an Anderson flat it's going to be pumping energy into growing the roots rather than growth for development, or something along those lines, no? I was kind of thinking of taking some seedlings and putting them on boards in flats, but now I'm re-thinking it. Just thought I'd bring it up as something to consider.

Larger training pot than its In now ..it’s in a seedlings container now , it’s 10 years old , need to thinken trunk , and keep height just a bit taller than it is now … or in a small custom wood flat in spring to focus on radial root development or both trunk thickening. Notice the roots in first picture to where they are now, got to capitalize on what it’s showing.

Just curious how it does in the garage and what kind of winter temps it gets. I have one and a couple of cuttings that I bring in under the lights and they do fine and one is flowering right now.

It stays in garage any nights it’s below 30 … in garage it’s around 40 .. don’t want it to flower inside I want it to be hardy .. you can treat pomegranate as subtropical with a dormancy

Good to know. I have room inside and have had one inside for a couple of years (for the winter). I guess what ever works.

Wondering if the detached garage is drying it out.. I water once a week to not let soil dry out but a few of the branches are looking super dry or dead .. persimmon in garage is doing fine though ..

Pomegranates CAN look very dead in winter. If other plants in the same spot show no problems, I would just wait till spring before doing anything.
