My pink mountain fairy Serrissa is in a terrarium in front of a south facing window. Shedding leaves. It is our winter here and all Summer this tree liked this placement. Hoping it is shedding for our climate sun placement? Sometimes it looks like I could be losing it, but some leaves have stayed on. Sometimes appears to look like small leaves were coming on. Both my husband(who used to farm) and I are not sure about this little tree. Still holding out for signs of renewal. Haven't fed it as yet, but will check moistness of soil before I do.

In a terrarium I would worry maybe it's staying too wet.

Hello again -- my experience is miniscule -- but for what it's worth, your description of shedding leaves sounds a bit like what I've seen with my young Cherry Blossom Serissa. (Granted, mine lives outdoors in Florida, with AM sun & bright shade the rest of the day.) I bought it in the spring, and it bloomed wonderfully, then put out a bunch of new growth -- after that matured, a scattering of leaves yellowed & dropped off, but nothing worse happened -- later, it budded, & just finished another good bloom.

So I'm hoping for the best, in your case!

Thanks for letting me know about your outdoor Serrissa. I read a tip about checking to see if it is alive. Scratch a little into the bark and if it is green underneath the tree is still alive. I did a small scratch in the lower part of the tree and did see green. I cleaned the jar again, ridding all the dropped leaves. I am keeping it in the same jar. I loosened the lid and this particular jar has a nickel sized round opening near the bottom. I will modify watering. It isn't too far from a base board heater. It had quite a bit of condensation. I noticed something like white mold on top of soil, which I removed from the top. Soil is damp and there isn't any condensation. I moved the table further away from the baseboard heater. See how that does now. I think as it is our winter, that the tree may be responding to not as much sun in the same southern facing window. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Carol, The jar has a nickel sized hole in the bottom edge(like where a spout could have been possibly)? It was not far from a baseboard heater. I moved the table away from the heater some. Cleaned the jar, removed the the dropped leaves. It is back in same jar, with a loosened lid. No condensation. The soil is moist. See how that does. There is green under the bark. So that is a good sign.
