A pot I saw online…what tree would this work for?

So I have been hunting for a strong pot for a pine I acquired for spring and I stumbled across this. Didn’t buy it. Just had never seen anything like it. Anyone see pots similar? I think I saw something similar from gyouzan but this is sanpou and was curious of what folks thought of the design, and what might look nice in it. Not my pic…just wanted to share about it and thought it was different in a sort of neat way. I would think it would take a very special tree, to not be too distracting. 1CBEA4C8-3C54-44C8-8907-08CC233AEE50.jpeg

IMO not good pine pot. "Feels" more feminine. Is pine sturdy, heavy developed bark, skinny, smooth bark, etc🤔? Strange whimsical pot more likely broad leaved trees even if unglazed..

There's a lot of Chinese pots with holes like that, mostly painted porcelain Nonsai pieces.

Too elaborate and fussy for a pine

I actually rather like it, but as above I think it would be better in a glazed pot for a flowering plant. And this from someone who loves naked pots.
It is definitely not a production pot. That is really obvious to any potter. It is studio made.

The pot itself above the feet is decent. But to me the feet make it look too high. If it had different feet I feel this pot would work any a flowering tree, not a pine.

I don't think this is Japanese-made. Clay and design look to me like Yixing ware (Chinese). Photo of a maker's mark would help ID it positively.

From the marks on the interior rim, it is handbuilt.

As long as you think the tree you choose for it is a special tree, your imagination should prevail. ✌️

Sanpou is a maker of Tokoname ware bonsai pots. This doesn't look right to me. Are you sure it is Sanpou? Sure looks like an American made pot to me.

Also the engraving is obviously hand built studio pottery.

Yup it’s listed as Sanpou. Not what I’m after but had not seen a base like this more than once. It’s definitely a handmade piece. Interesting pot. Would take a special kind of tree I suppose. I’m hunting for a pot with traditional feet.

My initial reaction for this is since it has a raised base that the tree should also be raised.
ROR or exposed root.
