Japanese Maple Cuttings

Pictures of my japanese maples and cutting system
@TyroTinker That's my mist tent I use during the spring/summer for keeping a nice humid environment for doing cuttings. The grow bed I put it on is 4x6ft. I live in Zone 7b so I don't really have to worry to much about overwintering. So must of my stuff just stays on the ground and doesn't have much protection. I have 5 of those grow 4x6ft beds for growing out various things. As far as for cuttings this year I managed to get 1000 or so cuttings in. Not sure what number I will get rooted. Next year plan on building a frame for the misting and maybe making it 10x20ft. I started using a conetainer system for seedlings, etc. It fits 98 in a 12x18in frame which really helps with fitting them in. The picture using a bulb pan with them crammed in was my frst attempt last year. I got 50-100 in each one, but not a lot of room, and hard to work with them individually.

Wow that's amazing. I was wondering how close people put cuttings and layers and other starts. I'm thinking of doing a raised bed but I wasn't sure how big I needed.
Thanks for the info

@TyroTinker Just an out of control hobby, LOL. Ill probably sell/give way some in the future. Once I get things going with good roots and I start using some for Bonsai I will have way more than I need. I am sure my wife would give them away in a heartbeat
I travel 80% of the time, so its something to keep me occupied thinking about while bored in a hotel. Once I am home more consistently I will really start using for Bonsai. Right now just growing out stock so I have plenty to work with in the future.
You haven't seen anything, my seed collecting and germinating habit has been going on for 10 years. So I have lots of stuff around growing out, LOL

I have been an avid maple collector for 10+ years and I plan on trying to incorporate lots of different cultivars into the art of Bonsai.

@jmw_bonsai that's fantastic! I have to slowly work my way there or my wife help me "take care of" my trees for me. I'm just starting up this year and she thinks I'm going to have a couple or a few trees. I bought 8 trees this year, tried one air layer and plan on taking at least a half a dozen different Air layers or cuttings from my parents tree next year. She doesn't know that yet.. :) but maple cultivars are the most interesting to me though.

When I first started I had about 30 or so maple cultivars in pots just on my patio where I could baby them with water, perfect sun, etc. That didn't last long. Wife informed me the patio was going to be an organized area and my mess wasn't organized, LOL. So they were moved back to the back of the yard. Of course I have still managed to meet the organized requirement and got lots of maples in her pots around the patio, plus built a 6 tiered 10ft long bench for them in the back, 5 grow beds, and numerous other areas, LOL.
My wife does have to water my trees on the patio while I am gone since I am gone 80% of the time. She likes them and has even collected seeds, seedlings, etc with me out in the world. She lieks them just things need to fit her super organized system!

Now I am smart enough to know she isn't going to fit watering Bonsai daily, so that's why I am slow to get things into pots. But I have been working on irrigation the last few years and seem to have it set up pretty good. So hopefully will be moving a few to pots.

I started cutting back a few maple pre-bonsai that I have purchased this spring and I involved her (She is a better artist than me for sure) so hoping I can get her ownership in them, LOL.

@TyroTinker With you being in the Northwest (Maple Mecca here in the US) you are going to have trouble, keeping things in check, LOL. Lots of places available to you!
