Creeping Juniper (Raft Style)

Bonsai Artist: Mr. John Naka
Species: Juniperus horizontalis
Exhibited At: Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection

This raft style juniper is over 40 years old, and has been a bonsai for 33 years.

The photograph was taken in late afternoon on a bright fall day. The construction of the displays at the Rim are such that they are tall concrete walls making the backdrops and sometimes sides of the displays. The afternoon sun was spilling over the top of the left hand wall, creating the effect of casting warm light on the foliage.

Two things..... it grows on you....lol and... it's huge. The scale of it is impressive. And being a raft... I have learned to love it's endless feeling of motion. When I first saw it, I was like.... ugh....

Then I saw it in this moment when I photographed it... and I was like.... oh myyyyyyy.... :)

Its a shame the highres version of this can't be seen here... it's far more marvelous than this scale and res allows to be appreciated.
