When this was in the ground it hadn't bloomed in years. Over the course of a year I fertilized it. Once it got stronger I potted it up but stopped fertilizing it. The following spring it took me by surprise with blooms! I fertilized it last summer and fall but not winter or spring and it is just now starting to form the blooms again.

But remember not to fertilize in winter or spring. Although fertilizer specifically for blooms would be ok probably in spring. Just not regular fertilizer in spring because then the tree may only become focused on growing lots of leaves and not blooms. Good luck! Oh, also don't prune it after summer until after it blooms (hopefully) the following year.

I should add now that this fall and winter I'm using a fertilizer for blooms and roots. It has no nitrogen which would help leaves. It's a 0 -10 -10 and looking forward to see results in some of my other flowering trees.
