Potentially moving to Las Vegas from Los Angeles

I've reached out to Bob via email and will see what he suggests. If I do indeed end up having to part with them, it will be very sad for me as I've spent a couple years searching out the right trees for my collection. :(

That's what I was afraid of . . . the Ume make up about 1/3 of my collection too. :(

Potentially moving to Las Vegas from Los Angeles

Hey Everyone, A potential career opportunity may take me and my tree's to Las Vegas . . . I've done some reading, and I can't seem to get good, consistent information. I'm sure there are a couple folks on here from the area . . . . Here's what I have: Prunus Mume Chinese Elm (1...

    Styling Suggestion: Prunus Mume

Thanks for the input everyone. I've been out of town and havent had a chance to reply . . . The long branch at the end of the chop actually does NOT have anything down low. What you see that LOOKS like its from the branch is actually from a branch behind that one, coming off the back of the...

    Another P. Mume

Here's another Prunus Mume I've recently acquired. Here's the progression. There's an interim pic I can't find, but the first pic is from when I got the tree about two years ago. I repotted and pruned down pretty good into a manageable "bush" for lack of a better descriptor. Left it alone last...

    Styling Suggestion: Prunus Mume

Alright, here's the "damage" after round 1. I'm still not sure about the large, straight branch jutting upright from the bottom edge of the chop. Its boring and lacks buds until the top 10% of the branch. Its just such a large branch to remove! (I dunno why the pic is rotated)

    Styling Suggestion: Prunus Mume

Thanks! I have another Ume that I'm working into a broom, so I think I want to do something a little different with this one . . . however, that may change once I start pruning! Sadly . . . . no. I don't think I fertilized well last year. I basically just gave it one balanced dose in the...

    Styling Suggestion: Prunus Mume

Okay, a little more info . . . the pic with the slightly tilted pot is my potential front. The first branch would be on the left with the second branch coming from the upper right of the trunk, extending from the top of the chop. Here's what I started with:

    Styling Suggestion: Prunus Mume

Hi everyone, So I acquired a nice sized P.Mume about 2 years ago and it came in a field pot. The first year I left it alone, then last year, I repotted into proper soil and a clay pot (I had hoped to put it back into a training pot, but the underlying root structure was bigger than I thought...

    Drawf Shefflera

It does take some time for the tree to respond, but in general I have found that I get a much better response when I completely defoliate as opposed to a partial defoliation.

    Brazilian Rain Tree Development

HPS is most likely the wrong spectrum of light for . . . its far too red. You should get a metal halide instead (but don't just get a MH bulb! It won't work unless the ballast is designed to run both).

Can anyone tell me whats wrong with this shimpaku

I'm in SoCal and I have to rotate my shimpaku daily to prevent scorching. Your tree however, does not sound like its getting burned (If anything, it may not be getting enough light). You may also be overwatering . . . hot and in the shade doesn't mean the soil is dry. I keep my shimpaku on...

Can anyone tell me whats wrong with this shimpaku

Where do you live? When you repotted, how much of the roots did you trim? What kind of sun does this tree get? How often do you water it and how dry is the soil when you do water? Can you see any kind of bugs?

    Brazilian Rain Tree Development

For starters, can you tell me more about the ground layer that you did? I have a BRT with a less-than-ideal nebari, and you seem to have a great start there. As for styling, the BRT responds really well to the Clip n' Grow technique. I have never wired mine, and doubt I ever well, but if I...

Plain ole' C. Elm - Help with leader selection

I just checked out that thread and ultimately, I started off wanting (and still do) a broom style tree. But with only one leader sprouting from the chop, it sorta will make for a poor broom! Unless I cut all the others off and re-score the chop to try and promote more growth. Anyone think that...
