I purchased this ficus three years ago from a nursery hoping to thicken up the trunk and eventually create an upright style bonsai. The trunk is about 1.5" thick and I think I'm ready to trunk chop it to create a new leader and establish taper.
However, I'm totally lost as where to chop it and...

Alright I understand the idea now.
I was allowing it grow tall just to thicken the trunk before chopping. But styling the top and then salvaging it for a second tree after the chop sounds fun.

So are you guys suggesting leaving the first two very low branches then root grafting the top farther down than the road?
