I'm new to bonsai and this forum use with experience could you recommend me a website nursery

Between those 2 pots, I would use the smart pot. You can also get large pond baskets. Generally, you shouldn't disturb the roots once the leaves have already opened, but I have cut the bottom part of the soil or split it in half and spread the 2 parts apart flat so it can fit in a pond basket...

More red leaves opening. These two look pretty much the same right now

Hi Elyah, that's a pretty bad graft union. None of those pots will be deep enough if you want to get rid of that union. Are you able to plant it in the ground? If you can, wrap a piece of wire around the trunk right under the union. Plant the tree deep so the wire is at least a few inches under...

Elyah, here's the $40 Murasaki kiyohime I got from Conifer Kingdom. Pretty bushy with a trunk the thickness of a pencil. If you do decide to buy a tree now, it's too late to do any root work, but you can lift the whole thing up and put it in a bigger pot or in the ground without disturbing the...

Hi Elyah, I have bought several Japanese maples this spring from 4 vendors: 2 from searching on Google and 2 from eBay. I'm happiest with Conifer Kingdom. Below is the link to their website. One of the plants I got from them is Murasaki Kiyohime. The one I received is actually bigger than...

    Ginseng Ficus Progression

Nice! Are you going to try to add more aerial roots from the horizontal branches?

    Sango-kaku

SF temps are definitely mild. I wonder if it's the fog.

    Sango-kaku

Your zone is colder than mine! How? You have to tell us every detail of how and where you keep this tree during the year and in the winter. LOL

    Sango-kaku

I'm not sure if it's temperatures anymore. I just ordered a Winter Flame (also pink bark, but smaller) from Oregon. Oregon winters can't be that bad. It's full of scars like the branches almost died back, but somehow survived and healed. It's definitely a goner in Massachusetts this winter...

    Sango-kaku

I can never keep Sango kaku alive, either. Do you have an unheard garage to keep it in winter? If it couldn't thrive in the ground, it would probably meet the same fate in a pot unless you can offer more protection.

    Deshojo from Gregory Beach Bonsai

Wow that's really bright red! The spring colors sound Katsura. The summer color looks Katsura as well. I'm not sure if they turn red though. Whatever it is, that's a win-win-win for all the seasonal colors you get from this tree ;)

    100% diatomite for soil?

I got mine at Zoro. It's $9/bag with free shipping if over $50. https://www.zoro.com/ep-minerals-universal-absorbent-25-lb-bag-8925/i/G3522854/?q=G3522854

    100% diatomite for soil?

I got these 10" pond baskets from Dr Fosters and Smith online for around $5, which is twice the cost of the 15" rectangular colanders. I only use the pond basket to do a wire airlayer to get rid of an ugly graft union. That's a good point. 10 years ago, the 8822 was much much larger. Too bad...
