    Small Town - Big Juniper

This is one of the possibilities I see. The removal of the two branches may look weird unless I do some carving. Any thoughts?

    Small Town - Big Juniper

I did a bit more work on the tree. Still trying to figure out what will stay and what will go. I'm thinking that this may be the section to keep but I'm also still looking. Here's how it sits today.

I am new to this but I think I see what you are saying about how it should be a shohin cascade. With the short trunk it does make sense. I was thinking I could wire the cascades I'm not going to use into shape for over the winter then air layer them in the spring.

    Small Town - Big Juniper

I started to do a little cleaning on it. So far I am concerned about the trunk being a bit on the short side but I haven't started exposing much of it yet. Does it look like I am at the main roots or do you think they are further into the soil? Not sure about the main branch structure either...

    Small Town - Big Juniper

Yeah, I think it would be best to wait until spring before I mess around with the roots or repotting. I should be able to get away with exposing more of the trunk and work my way down to the main roots. It would be nice to see what the whole trunk looks like and how tall the tree actually is...

    Small Town - Big Juniper

Honestly, I'd say I was initially a bit overwhelmed. I trimmed the top off of the pot to clean out all of the debris and see what the undergrowth and trunk looked like. Then I took the photos. For now I'll just keep it alive until winter unless there is something else I should be doing with it...

    Small Town - Big Juniper

My wife and I were heading to our cabin this weekend and while going through a small town we stopped at a small mom and pop nursery. I spotted this Juniperus procumbens nana and asked them about it. They said that they were getting rid of all of the trees and shrubs so they could just focus on...

O.K. I removed a couple branches and made some adjustments.

    Starting with small steps

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I did some searching to find out what I was looking for. It's difficult sometimes to ask for information when you don't know what you are asking for. I wanted to know how to grow out seedlings and what the process was for getting a tree ready for training...

    Starting with small steps

As a noob to bonsai I have been doing a lot of reading in the forums. I have also been purchasing and reading books that are often recommended. One of the things that attracts me to bonsai is the "take it slow" aspect. It is good to have something in your life that slows you down and causes you...
