Got in a bidding war, but it was worth it!!

Yeah, that guy really came to play. He was in seven different auctions that I noticed.

Got in a bidding war, but it was worth it!!

watched the madness ensue I had a bonsai stand I built in this auction and it got exactly ZERO bids…hahaha. I was watching this bidding war unfold in real time. It was a fun one to watch…. way more fun than mine. You earned the hell out of that pot, good sir.

Good looking outdoor pedestals that are easy to make

Hey John, I was worried about the heat, so I placed moss (I think it is some kind of feather moss) over much of the top. I like the look, and it keeps the heat way down. I collect all the moss off an asphalt parking lot, so it really thrives on these stones. You can see it better in the BC...

I do not know of any standard height, because it really depends on your trees and what the bench is for. If you only have large trees, you would want a shorter bench. If you are only doing shohin, then taller is better. If this is a bench that will double as a viewing spot and work space, you...

No concrete, just pea gravel and sand mixed together it locks it all in place without being permanent.

Glad you like it! I put them a little over two feet into the ground. I used a pea gravel and sand instead of concrete so I can move them when the time comes.

Good looking outdoor pedestals that are easy to make

Hello all, Since I'm new here and have only asked a ton of questions, I thought I'd give back. It will be many years before I feel informed enough to give bonsai advice, so I thought I'd share something I am good at. I am an instrument maker by trade and, while I have the ability and the...

    Cascade Lebanon Cedar

As always John, very nice work. Did you do any timed pruning on this tree to keep the proportions as you have? Or did you just prune as needed?

    Bald Cypress "Creative Critique"

Thanks, John. This BC is very vigorous. It's a constant battle to keep wire on and buds off the base. I also don't like Shari on BC. So, this winter I will take the plunge and go for a bigger hollow. I have a few bits that will let me get more than half the way down. So that's the question: Do...

To be honest, I had a different pot in mind at transplant -- but it didn't fit. It was round and deeper, but the diameter was wrong. I would like to get it in a round pot the next time around. I also completely agree with your choice of front. That is why I took the after pictures at those...

    Bald Cypress "Creative Critique"

Hey Ed, This is the tree now. It was a 14' tree when I got it. The pictures you are seeing now are 2 years since I've been working it. I took the pictures of it on the stand last week.

Thank you for the feedback. I've thought a lot about the carving but have never gotten up the guts to do it. Next season I will man up.

    Bald Cypress "Creative Critique"

Hello all, I'm looking to get feedback on this tree that I've been working on for two years. It started its bonsai life as a neglected, 14-foot root-bound tree in a 15-gallon pot. I found it in the back of a landscape nursery. The first photo (white sheet behind it; please excuse...
