    Burned Leaf Tips

Wow that is very nice... I guess I had not considered the level of flexibility. I was always told to wait a year (from seedling) to start straining the tree. Thank you.

    Burned Leaf Tips

I believe that overwatering was the issue as I have another pot with a Red Japanese Maple located nearby (same sun exposure), but it did not receive so much water rain. Of course, the leaves are ok on this pot. Thank you.

    Burned Leaf Tips

Here are the photographs. As you can see the plants have only 2-3 sets of leaves, so I can't really remove some of them. Thank you.

    Burned Leaf Tips

One of my Japanese Maples have small burned leaf tips. They are pre-bonsai trees, and I keep them in a clay pot on a balcony facing east. Here in northeast Ohio it rains at least once a week, temperatures in the day can go up to the 90s and at night it may drop to 65. (USDA Hardiness Zone 5a)...

How many times should I water/fertilize them during winter? Is that what you were referring by saying "drainage"? - Thanks

    Ficus ID and Styling

I have had this Ficus bonsai for nearly a year. I was told it was about 4 years old, but the seller could not tell me if it was a Ficus retusa or microcarpa. Any ideas? Also, I would like to know what style should I use now that it is an older tree?

    Japanese Red Maple Pre-bonsai Winterization.

I actually looked at this option (http://www.mrboxonline.com/16x13x125-quart-husky-styrofoam-coolers-p-6849.html) and its very inexpensive.

    Japanese Red Maple Pre-bonsai Winterization.

That is actually not a bad idea. I do realize they are trees that need a dormancy period; however, my only concern was that since they are so small (they germinated early in spring) they may be susceptible to the weather.

    Japanese Red Maple Pre-bonsai Winterization.

Hi, I recently acquired 2 Japanese Red Maple (JRM) seedlings and I am thinking ahead regarding winter. They are now 4 inches in average, and I live in north east Ohio (USDA Zone 5a). I also live in a small apartment and so I only have a small balcony at my disposal. I thought about acquiring...
