Hi All,
My collection of Japanese Maples has expanded, and was hoping to air layer off of a few of them to share with my club-mates.
I've heard that some varieties will not grow successfully from a layer. eg: Someone mentioned that a Shaina may not grow on their own roots but need to be...
Moringa as bonsai?
My dad swears by Moringa for it's health benefits (he grows them at his home down near Guadalajara MX) That trunk looks huge for the height of the tree. Would it be decent bonsai material as well?
Hi All,
I picked up a few small A.P. trees from our local OSH which was closing out their small Maple stock.
2 were labelled Fireglow. Many of the trees in their stock were mislabeled as laceleafs and they clearly were not. So, I'm suspect that these FireGlows may actually be Bloodgood...
Thanks! Will wait
Thanks for the help everyone. This layer has no where near this many roots as Osoyoung's attachment. Waiting another month or so to harvest this one.
Hi All,
I started an air layer on this A.P. BonFire back in mid April. It's been 4 months and it's grown some nice roots. (The tree only gets about 2-3 hours of filtered morning sun per day) This is my first air-layer attempt so didn't want to harvest this too soon so am reaching out to...
Not Japonica:
Thanks Martin: I have the Hornbeam trees sitting next to each other (Korean, European, This tree), and this one is the only one with bronze-colored new growth. The others are all green.
I'm feeling confident that it's Carpinus Turczaninowii for now
Hi All,
I purchased this Hornbeam from a nursery recently, but they could not tell me specifically which Hornbeam it was. (I also purchased a Korean and European at the same time).
As you may be able to see in the pictures, the new growth comes in with Red leaves.
Leaf size is smaller...
Nice exotic tropical!
It may not be the most typical bonsai material but the tree rocks on it's own! Looks like something from Yoda's home world. Hmm, very interesting on it's own this one.
Good luck!
Seems like Potocarpus/Yew
You guys are amazing! I leave the thread for 8 hours and you're planning a roadtrip to my neighborhood. Beer is on me for any of you who make it. Message me offline if you are in the area.:o
So far I think Nathan and NewWorldBonsai seem to have nailed it. The...
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm in Northern CA in Livermore. We're zone 8b i believe.
This tree is totally weeping over (it's only about 6 inches high) Tough to determine if it could be a deodar but will read into it.
Thanks for the quick response Bob. It was basically free and i agree: getting it healthy was my first priority. It has tough pointy leaves almost like podocarpus, but they are short (3/4-1 inch)
Hoping someone can identify it so it has a better chance of surviving.
I picked this up at a local wholesale nursery that was going out of business, as it had some nice cascading characteristics.
The remaining skeleton crew at the nursery had no idea what it was.
Can any of you identify this ?
